Client Pet of the Month
Halo is an eleven year old greyhound owned by Susan Coleman. Halo has been a patient at East Ridge since 2002.
Halo has spent a lot of time in the hospital for surgery on his toes and the recovery from them. Greyhounds in general do not tolerate surgery well, but Halo comes through each time. He has a curious habit that scares us each time he is here. He likes to sleep on his back in a classical dead dog posture. Every time I see him I love to call his name, upon which he will open 1 eye to acknowledge he is still with us.
As the years have gone by he has developed severe arthritis. Susan brings him in monthly for injections that help, but you can see he is aging. What I love about Halo is you never hear a sound of complaint. He continues to try his best t o be Susan's friend.
Recently, he came for a swelling near his rectum. After some consideration about his age and general condition, we surgically removed it. It unfortunately turned out to be a malignant tumor, but after a tough 2 week recovery Halo has bounced back. His time is limited, but he is back to his old self. Halo has always been one of the staff's favorite patients.
