Salem's Corner Fall 2010
The fall is upon us and it's time to check your pets for fleas. They will be a problem until we have a good heavy frost. There are now many flea and tick products that are very safe to use. Check with your vet to see which product works well for your situation.
This is also the time of year that many of us dogs start to itch and it's not always from fleas. Allergies and skin infections usually peak in August, September, and October. Let your vet know if you see your pet licking and chewing excessively. Almost always, there will be a lot of chewing of the feet and scratching of the ears.
On a personal note, I still live with and care for Dr. Balonek. He seems to be doing well on dialysis. Except for the night of his treatment he seems to have more energy.
This past weekend, the hospital participated in the kidney walk. They had a very good turnout and even old Jerry walked. Rumor has it he is still trying to finish.
I will try to update my column more frequently.
Thanks - Salem (the soon to be 6 year old lab)
